The Chase

It is the thought of not having you
That haunts.
Not so much that I may capture better
smiles,
Nor that I may hold petals
More cherishable.
But
My chosen gem,
Having no comparison,
Your gentle shine
Unravels.

I am jealous.
So many strive
For your attention.
They sing their
Enticing melodies
While mine is kept hidden
Until the time of revelation.
They display their
Perishing strength
And their loud noise
While my voice is
Stern, soft and deafeningly still.

I descended from my loftiness
To pursue you.
I ran the crowded streets in search
Across infinite
Uncrossed chasms.
I walked the heart of the Holy City
Shamed and ridiculed
For they did not understand that
I was willing
To give up everything just to purchase you.
You are my glory-
The Father's promised treasure
Since before the world began.

For you I have died,
For you I live,
For you I will reign!

And one day,
My Father will present you
Before me blameless,
Clothed in white.
I will receive you
And you will be mine forever.
